An old expression to describe the finally successful results after many attempts over a long time was “Now you’re cooking with gas!”
A very clever gas appliance marketing guru probably coined the phrase to sell more gas stoves. After all, the gas flame was instant-on while electricity took more time to heat up.
We obviously fell for the ad campaign, because we have always wanted a gas stove. We have had only electric stoves except in the camper. It’s a sad story when one is cooking in a nice large kitchen with a big electric stove all the while preferring the cramped camper kitchen with the small gas stove.
New house didn’t have a gas stove, but it will tomorrow! Then we’ll be cooking with gas!
