Buff Orpington Babies and Big Girls

Big Girls and Babies Aug 2015

The babies that Joanna hatched the end of May are getting bigger! The babies are in the South Run/Coop, and the Big Girls are in the North Run/Coop. The two runs are separated by wire so they are used to hearing and seeing each other. We have a panel that we can open.

We opened the panel between the two Runs earlier this week. The Big Girls were out free-ranging for the morning and the door to their run was closed.  The Babies enjoyed exploring the North Run and even peeked into the North Coop.

Today we opened the panel while the Big Girls, including Mama Joanna, were still in the North Run. Big Girl Leah decided to visit the Southside. She and April, one of the babies, were enjoying a sip at the South Waterer.

April stretched her neck up and asked Leah, “Am I as big as you?” Leah replied, “Peck, no.”

While they have a while to go it is tome to open up access to nest boxes for exploration. The only reason the “babies” don’t get to free range outside the runs is they still fit through the fencing and fisit the neighbors place. Jaye Bee, you are so good with the chicks. You never cease to impress me!
