Fly Catcher

Flycatcher Sept 2014

We have a lot of garden spiders. One in particular was our go-to-gal for catching flies in the Big Girls’ run. She took her work seriously and was very much appreciated. Her beautiful orbital web covered one section of the run, and I had to be careful during my daily cleanings to stay lower than her web. I’m short, so it wasn’t very difficult.

Last weekend, I was out of town so Olde Dog’s Man took over my cleaning duties for a day. He isn’t short and didn’t realize he needed to stay lower than her web. He walked through her web, and she found refuge on his arm as he walked out. When Man noticed Fly Catcher was catching a ride, he brushed her off his arm. Joanna, who follows Man closely just in case he might want to pet her or give her a treat, joyfully pounced on the treat that fell at her feet and Slurp.

Thank you, Fly Catcher, for all the flies you caught and for being a treat for Joanna.
