CGD In Training

LGD in training Sept 2014

Young Pup is being schooled by Olde Dog on how to be a Chicky Guardian Dog, one of the more specialized Livestock Guardian Dogs.

The first step, of course, is not to chase the chickies. Or jump at the chickies. Or whine because you want to chase or jump at the chickies. The second step is to chill.

Olde Dog and Young Pup herded the chickies back to the coop together. Excellent teamwork, Boys!

I can certainly relate, as my dogs had to figure out who the chickens were (when they came to the farm) in the whole scheme of things. A little dicey at first, but after a few months, they – the dogs became and are excellent guards of the flock!
