Her Tree

Her Tree

Her Tree is blooming! The small tree proudly produced sweet-smelling magnolia blossoms just in time for Mothers’ Day. Won’t she be surprised to see how well her tree is doing!

When I was 9, we lived just down the street from a house with a huge magnolia tree. I loved climbing up as high as I could into that tree and then relaxing in the branches and smelling the sweet softness of the magnolia’s blossoms. I wonder if the neighbors didn’t care for a small girl dangling from branches in their tree, because I was told I couldn’t go into their yard anymore. So I sat in the next-door neighbor’s yard and talked to the tree across the fence. Even then it wasn’t possible to keep a girl away from Her Tree.
