The woods were alive with lightning bugs tonight. After living for almost 12 years near the beach and the Atlantic Ocean, where there are no lightning bugs, we thought lightning bugs had become extinct.
And then last summer we visited Tennessee where we saw the familiar blinking lights at dusk, and Olde Dog had his first experience with lightning bugs. They were in front of his face; then they weren’t; they were next to him; then they weren’t. He was very confused.
Tonight, there were so many lightning bugs in our woods, it looked like fairies were gathering for a night time party. And we were invited!
