Acorn Acres

Acorn Acres

A property with beautiful Florida oak trees in the early fall becomes a property with acres of acorns in the late fall. And the acorns do fall!

The sharp crack of an acorn when it hits the tin roof of a shed or the top of a truck is very startling, especially for the uninitiated. Even when it hits the ground, the thud is loud.

A young man from the city came with his boss to pick up a ladder left behind by the roofing crew. When he heard the first acorn drop on the shed, he hurried to get into the truck before he was hit by the unknown missile.

I think I heard the oak tree chuckle as it tossed acorn after acorn at the cab and hood of the truck. The young man was obviously very grateful when they finally drove away. I totally understand how he felt. Sometimes I pull up the hood of my sweatshirt when I hear acorns falling around me.
